Travel Grants

The GSA awards a number of travel grants (up to $500) every semester (Sept-Dec, Jan-Apr, May-Aug). GSA Travel Assistance Grants are funded from the proceeds of the GSA Development Fund, which is sustained by contributions from Graduate Students and the University.

Graduate students are now able to apply for graduate bursaries through Mosaic’s Student Centre!

The students can apply by going to:

Students must complete the application form that is found in Mosaic and submit a HARD COPY of the application package to The School of Graduate Studies, Gilmour Hall Room 212, attention Scholarships by Monday, February 27th, 2017.

If the application requires transcripts, they can be copies of original transcripts and/or unofficial McMaster University transcripts.

Application #2 ‐ SGS Grant in Aid of Travel Research & Field Study Fund (Students applying for the SGS Grant in Aid will also be considered for the James F. Harvey and Helen S. Harvey Travel Scholarships)

Club Funding

In conjunction with the School of Graduate Studies, the GSA has begun to develop a formal mechanism for Graduate Student Groups to gain recognition. The GSA has a tentative opening date of October 2016! Please continue to review our site for updates regarding the recognition process!

Awards

The McMaster Graduate Students Association (GSA) looks to recognize exceptional students and staff through annually distributed awards.

Students are notified of a Call of Nominations in March.  It is then that award applications are available.

Awards are distributed at the SGS/GSA Graduate Student Recognition Day, which is held annually in September.  Awards from both the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) and the GSA are presented at this event.

Below is a list of awards administered by the GSA.  Full descriptions will be available with the applications during the period for nominations. Please send the completed applications to gradawards@mcmaster.ca

GSA / SGS Bursary

The Graduate Students Association Bursary was established in 1999 by the Graduate Students Association at McMaster University under the McMaster Student Opportunity Fund initiative. The bursary is to be granted to a full or part-time graduate student in one of the following faculties registered under the GSA: Engineering, Health Sciences, Humanities, Science, Social Sciences or Business (excluding MBA). The bursary is awarded on an on-going basis by the School of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Graduate Students Association.

The graduate student must demonstrate that the financial support from McMaster is <$24,500 from all sources (employment, TAship & scholarship) for the academic year September to August. Alternatively, individuals experiencing a period of exceptional financial hardship may also apply.

Bursaries are set at a current value of $500. Applications may be submitted at any time. A maximum of 3 bursaries will be awarded each academic year. Please note that graduate students are only eligible to receive one GSA bursary per academic year.

Successful applicants will be notified via email within one month of submitting the bursary application. Please contact macgsa@mcmaster.ca with any questions or comments regarding the GSA/SGS Bursary application.

GSA Del Pereira Bursary

The Graduate Students Association Del Pereira Bursary was established in 2014 through a generous donation from Studentcare.  The bursary is to be granted to a full or part-time graduate student in one of the following faculties registered under the GSA: Engineering, Health Sciences, Humanities, Science, Social Sciences or Business (excluding MBA). The bursary is awarded on an on-going basis by the McMaster GSA.

The graduate student must demonstrate that the financial support from McMaster is <$24,500 from all sources (employment, TAship & scholarship) for the academic year September to August. Alternatively, individuals experiencing a period of exceptional financial hardship may also apply.

Bursaries are set at a current value of $125. Applications may be submitted at any time. A maximum of 8 bursaries will be awarded each academic year. Please note that graduate students are only eligible to receive one GSA bursary per academic year.

The  Bursary application is available on Mosaic. Find the application on Mosaic by clicking the “Student Centre” link and then select “Apply for Financial Aid”. Students who have not applied to OSAP are asked to complete a budget online and submit supporting documents to SFAS.
